Nosy neighbors and visitors can be a real pain, and in today’s time, privacy is more important than ever. And while there are numerous options in terms of window treatments for privacy, some often have their drawbacks. Curtains, for example, can fully restrict light and visuals from being seen. However, depending on where your windows are, it may not always be easy or feasible to open and close them each day. Cellular blinds reside in much the same category, for the same reasons.
If you wish to be able to retain natural light in your space, but need an additional layer of privacy, privacy film may be the best option for your scenario.
Using privacy film on a window can offer several benefits:
Enhanced Privacy: Privacy film obscures the view from outside while still allowing natural light to enter, making it harder for passersby or neighbors to see inside. This is particularly useful for areas like bathrooms or bedrooms where you might want to maintain personal privacy.
Glare Reduction: Privacy film can help reduce glare from the sun, which can be particularly helpful for rooms with lots of direct sunlight. This can make indoor spaces more comfortable and reduce the strain on your eyes.
UV Protection: Many privacy films are designed to block a significant amount of ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. This can help protect your furniture, flooring, and other interior furnishings from fading or damage caused by UV exposure.
Privacy films often come in different layers of protection, and can come in a wide variety of textures and patterns to suit your personal tastes. With these unique patterns, it’s also easy to achieve a stained glass effect without the hefty pricetag, as many of these designs are eye-catching when sunlight hits them.
Privacy film is typically applied in much the same fashion as a static window cling, negating the concern of residue being left over if you decide to remove them down the line. For these reasons, they’ve become a growing trend for spaces all over the world.
Take a look at one of Sarah’s latest installs! Because Sarah had a similar film on her front door, installed by the home’s previous owner, she wanted a comparable solution for her kitchen’s windows. Based on their height and positioning near her sink, she was unable to reach them, she determined that privacy film would be the best fit for her unique situation.
To ensure the best fit, both portions of the double-hung windows were measured, as there are often slight differences in the sizing for each pane. Once measured, cutting began.

With each window’s pane film cut, it was time to clean the windows thoroughly. Cleaning is necessary for maximum adherence to the window itself. And while windows can be washed, a bottle of Windex will get the job done, too.
After waiting for the windows to dry, it was time to remove the protective backing for each piece, and guide the pieces carefully into place. It’s best to start on a corner to make sure no wrinkles pop up as you put the film into place. But, have no fear, if a bubble or wrinkle appears, simply peel it off, and try it again! Since these films are made in much the same way as a static cling, you won’t have to worry about losing its ‘sticking power.’
The results are simply stunning! And best of all, peace of mind has been restored.
